Industry EventsThere are many interesting conferences and events related to various aspects of the broadband home. Here are a few that we have attended recently or plan to attend, either as speakers or to keep up to date on what's new and important. We'll cover them in our report on the Broadband Home. For those interested in tru2way, the event will be preceded by the tru2way Developers' Conference on May 17-18. As usual, there will be a mix of exhibits, sessions and events focusing on technology, strategy, the regulatory environment, business models and more. This will be the 57th International Annual Convention and Exhibition presented by NCTA. We'll be at the Developers’ Conference and the entire show, so hope to see you there! IPTV World Forum – North America is part of a series of IPTV events organized by Informa Telecoms & Media globally. It will address the question of where North American IPTV providers are going to find their subscribers and what services must they provide (and evolve) in order to differentiate themselves in the crowded Pay TV marketplace. It includes a wide array of products, including home networking, mobile electronics, wireless, audio, gaming, digital imaging and home theater. For us, this is always a “don’t miss” event. TelcoTV Conference & Expo 2007October 22-25, 2007 Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, Georgia, USAwww.scievents.com TelcoTV is devoted to exploring the converging ecosystems of broadband and entertainment. The show started six years ago with a focus on telephone company provision of TV services,and has expanded to include MobileTV, IPTV and NetVideo, and their impact on service providers. On Wednesday, October 3, we gave a presentation Home Networking Technologies for Today and Tomorrow. On the morning of October 4 we held a half-day workshop "Everything You Needed to Know About Home Networking and Were Afraid to Ask". USAwww.ctam.com/conferences/summit The CTAM organization is dedicated to cable telecommunications marketing. This year we were invited to run an interactive workshop on home networking, as part of CTAM’s "Digital Products" track. The session focused on the options for moving media throughout the home as digital media proliferates. Our discussion included what’s changing in the home, what service providers and others are doing to respond, and the wired and wireless networks that reach across the PC, TV and mobile phone. This conference and expo covered the areas of researching, building, marketing and successfully selling IPTV experiences from the service provider's point of view, targeted for telecom professionals with stakes in all aspects of the IPTV value chain. We covered the show in TelcoTV 2006: Start of the Second Wave (BBHR December 13, 2006). WiMAX World 2006October 10-12, 2006 Boston, MAWith mobile WiMAX getting ready for market, we attended WiMAX World 2006 for an update from key industry players. We covered the show in WiMAX World 2006: "Wi-Fi On Steroids" (BBHR November 5, 2006). UPLC Broadband Power Line 2006September 17-20, 2006 Charlotte, NCUPLC brings together utilities and technology companies working on broadband over power line (BPL). Although utilities are also working on retail—broadband to consumer—applications, the focus at this show was largely on internal utility applications. Fall VON 2006September 11-14, 2006 Boston Convention & Exhibition CenterJeff Pulver's Voice on the Net (VON) conference celebrated its tenth anniversary in Boston. This year's headline was the rapid emergence of video over IP, highlighted by a parallel "Video on the Net" conference. We covered the show in VON: "V" Is For Video (BBHR October 17, 2006).
